Snowed in!

Finally we get some snow! It may not look like it, but we are snowed in! No snowplows means packed snow and ice sheets on the roads... no one is going anywhere. Bundled up here at home, it's been heavenly though. The blinds are all pulled up so we have unobstructed views of the beautiful, white landscape out there. I have been making soups and baking bread (plus a lot of organizing but that's not nearly as romantic!) Nyah points out the window every so often and says "no-ing!!" :) Gabe is spending most of every day outside playing with the neighborhood kids, interspersed with short breaks of us huddled by the fire drinking cups of hot cocoa while his snow clothes spend a minute in the dryer. (It's awfully wet snow!) It is so fun!! School has been canceled all week... even work for Eric has been on hold. (Well, technically he has been working at home but he takes lots of little breaks!) It didn't take long for our fun-loving Daddy to break out the sled and take the kids out... Gabe loves it but Nyah prefers to run (or trundle slowly) along side the sled mostly! We have a little trail through a green belt in our neighborhood that we love to walk on. The snow has transformed it into our own winter wonderland! I feel like I'm in a fairy tale book in there! :) Gabe wanted to go to his pond and see if it had frozen over... well it almost was! He had fun forming snowball "bombs" and chucking them in! I think we are at the tail end of this snow break though. The sky is giving us less snow and more "freezing rain". It's wreaking even more havoc with the roads but I am loving the gorgeous ice sculptures forming outside on all the plants. Within a few days all this will be gone (sigh) but I have to say we loved the change and appreciated every minute!

Christmas lights at Temple Square

One of my favorite things about going home for Christmas is that we get to go see the lights at Temple Square. I have been able to see them almost every year for the past 20 years... and I'm always still awed. They are beautiful! Especially with the temple rising above. Wow. It was a perfect night to go because the weather was so mild. Everyone had a wonderful time. Gotta love this first picture of the very-excited-kids taking off down the sidewalk (that's them way too far away!!)

the sisters on TV and New Year's fondue!

My sister's and I were all invited on Channel 2 News at noon while we were there! The Sister's Cafe was featured on their Fresh Living show earlier in the year but only Mel, Mindy and Amy were there to be on. This time we all got to be on together and I have to say it was a lot of fun! We did a "cooking" segment about fondue... a fun idea since New Year's Eve was in just a few days. It was a lot of fun! We actually posted the segment on our website too. Here we are right before heading to the news station that morning:We saved all the yummy fondue makings for our own family fondue party on New Year's Eve! It was a blast and everyone appreciated our delicious contribution to the night! :)Then on New Year's Day we headed over to the Richardson's for more fondue!! Actually it is their tradition to have fondue to celebrate the new year. It was lots of fun.

Utah Christmas Trip

Bright and early on Christmas morning (actually dark and early!!) we were on a plane to Utah! Dear old Santa came a day early to our house so no one missed a thing. In fact, we got a double Christmas because we were at Grandma Richardson's house in time for present opening and to Grammy Sterzer's in time for Christmas dinner! It was a wonderful day and so special to be able to see our loved ones in Utah on our favorite holiday!Nyah with aunt Caitlynn and grandma R - Gabe with Grandma and Grandpa. Cool new remote dump truck, Gabe! This was the only picture of the kids opening gifts and my parents! Nyah loved her new book from great grandma and grandpa Rice... so did Gabe!
We had SO much fun in Utah! I had to start with this favorite picture of little Nyah and my mom... love those two girls so much!! Mostly it was a lot of activities at home and that's where I'll start... Mom had so many crafts and games prepared for all the grandkids. (Did I mention that ALL my siblings were in town together?!! It was crazy fun!! :) Lots of people at Grammy and Papa's house, especially when Matt and Mindy's families would stay late, but it felt soooo good to be with all my wonderful siblings again.) Anyway, here are a few cute pictures of all the cousins together! First there was stockings to decorate:Hey, what does she think she's doing... sneaking up on the table to eat the treats?! That little stinker!! :)This one was a really fun scripture story game... and check out those awesome prizes! Every kid was frantically racking their brain!! haha! (btw, I love Cannon's face in the foreground... he was not happy about something!!)This was a night of Christmas bingo - oh ya!!I had to add a cute picture of Papa cuddled up with his only two grandaughters reading books. And of course there was also lots and lots of trampoline time!
Eric's mom also had some fun activities planned for the kids. Here they are decorating cupcakes to look like tree ornaments. There was an amazing variety of candy to choose from... something both kiddies got really excited about! :)What a cute kid Gabe is!! He was really proud of that cupcake. I love how creative he is.
Nyah can't resist saying "CHEESE!" whenever a camera is pointed at her... so we get this face a lot in pictures!
The day ended with a story from Daddy...
Eliza had her 4th birthday in Utah! She had a princess and pirate party - 2 little princesses and whole gang of pirates! :) I didn't get a good picture of the princesses but I did get one of the games:And here is our bday princess with her pretty mama (and Sam) at a playland for lunch.
Happy Birthday Sweetheart!!

Our first Christmas at home!

This year was special because it was the first year that we celebrated Christmas on our own! Santa even came to our house this year (instead of grandparents)! On Christmas Eve I made my family's traditional dinner of Chicken a la King, which we enjoyed by candlelight. Then we read the story of Christ's birth out of the bible, sang some Christmas songs, and read some Christmas stories. At this point we let Gabe and Nyah open a gift each - pjs plus a new Christmas book. So we read the book and made a plate of goodies for Santa and the reindeer then popped the kiddies into bed! Eric and I enjoyed a fun evening of preparation for the morning (wink wink!) and watching The Christmas Carol with George C Scott (a personal fave of mine...and hopefully Eric's one day)! It was such a fun night! The next morning the kids were up early (not so unusual for our Gabers) and ready to go see what Santa brought! He was so cute, getting Nyah all excited to go downstairs.Gabe was THRILLED with the awesome garbage truck that Santa brought for him!! This was one of the only pictures I could get of him looking at the camera! He was all eyes on the truck all day. :)Nyah got a baby doll and stroller from Santa. It took her a few minutes to warm up to it but in the end she loved it! Here is her funny little "CHEESE" face!I decided to add to that gift by sewing her baby doll a little bed and some blankies. I think Nyah liked it! We had a delicious breakfast (if I do say so myself!) of Christmas cream eggs, bacon, fruit and homemade pastry. Then it was back to opening presents and playing! Daddy decided to take a rest on the couch and Nyah came right over and made herself comfortable... right on his head! haha! "Oh wait, there's someone under there!" :)

days up to Christmas

In the days just before Christmas we had a lot of fun getting all those last minute things done... presents to wrap and put under the tree, goodies to make and take to friends, and fun outings to see all the Christmas festivities in the city! I spent a whole day making chocolates with some good friends. We did so much that day but to name a few: we made caramel, turtles, chocolate truffles, fudge, and dipped fondant (orange, lemon and mint)... yum!! It was so fun to hang out with the ladies all day and I loved all the goodies we had at the end of the day! :) The week before Christmas, Eric and I went on a date and walked around beautiful downtown Seattle, enjoying the lights and hustle and bustle of the Christmas season. It was a fun to get out and have a relaxing evening with my honey. We took the kids to Snowflake Lane in Bellevue again this year and it was a ton of fun. The only pictures I have are from Eric's phone so I'll have to add them later. I love love love Christmas and everything that comes along with it!
